On Monday, September 23rd, MIS is happy to host Kevin Hawkins, leading author, speaker and consultant on mindfulness and social-emotional learning in education, on our campus, an event sponsored by the MIS Foundation. He will be working with students, parents, faculty and staff around the theme of mindfulness and wellbeing in schools.
Parents have the opportunity to attend a session with him from 15:00-16:00 in the Middle School Auditorium.
Wellbeing at MIS: Mindful Parenting Session
Schools around the world are increasingly focusing on the wellbeing of their students and teachers. Against a background of rising depression and anxiety, and in particular amidst concerns around mental health issues facing young people, many educational organisations are considering how best to promote positive mental health and social and emotional learning (SEL). The role of parents is key in nurturing the development of our young people in partnership with school, so we want to hear your perspective on wellbeing at MIS. In order to be successful and resilient in this age of distraction, we need to cultivate attention, self-awareness and emotional regulation. There is now considerable and compelling evidence that training in mindfulness is a very effective way of alleviating stress, anxiety and depression as well as promoting positive health. Together we will look at the productive connections that schools are beginning to make between wellbeing, mindful awareness and the affective skills.
As parents, these same approaches can be used to help us ground ourselves, find calm amidst stressful and challenging moments and enable us to parent more mindfully.
