Ski Team - Training and Eligibility

Rules & Guidelines

Please read through the following rules and guidelines carefully with your parents before you travel on any ski team overnight event.

Curfew and Ski Team Rules

Curfew for the ski camps/weekends and ski races will be:

  • Middle school 21:30
  • Senior school 22:30

Curfew is the latest time at which all students must be in their rooms (not other students’ rooms) and quiet when their curfew is reached. Not abiding by the curfew rules will be dealt with accordingly. For example, if students show no respect for the curfew they will not be training or racing the following day. If they miss curfew a second time they will be sent home.

Middle school students will not be allowed out of the hotel unsupervised after dinner

High school students who leave the hotel must be in groups of 2 or more, and must return to the hotel before curfew and report to the chaperone or trainer who is on duty that evening.

All school and athletic department rules as written in the athletic code and player contract apply for all members of the ski team.

Whether it is a ski camp, training weekend or a race weekend, this is a school organised trip where all students are representing the Munich International School and therefore school rules apply.

The use of cigarettes, alcohol or other drugs will result in the team member being sent home immediately (to be picked up by parents).

Ski team members must remember that they are part of an MIS group both on and off the slopes and therefore respectful, appropriate behaviour is expected at all times.

Senior school team members are role-models for the younger racers and therefore should be supportive and helpful in assisting and motivating the younger racers.

If a student does not respect the guidelines for curfew and behaviour then a warning letter will be sent home which needs to be signed by the parent and returned to the athletic office.

If another instance of misbehaviour occurs then a meeting will be set up and the consequences could include, but may not be limited to:

  • Suspension from the team.
  • Withdrawal from a race.
  • Withdrawal from training.

Guidelines during ski camps and weekend races

1. Preparing of equipment for the ski day

  • Choice of skis (slalom or giant slalom: trainers will inform)
  • Appropriate warm clothing
  • Helmet is mandatory
  • Slalom protection when applicable
  • Sun cream

2. Assist trainers with the gathering & carrying of materials (e.g. drills, gates, flags)

3. After skiing, help unload bus and be in charge of one’s own equipment:

  • Wipe skis down so that they don’t rust
  • Place boots, gloves and ski clothing somewhere warm so that they can dry overnight.
  • Keep ski pass somewhere safe and accessible since it is used all week.

4. Ski preparation after skiing: includes sharpening and waxing of the skis.

  • Students should have wax and an edge sharpener, and one or two students should bring a waxing iron.

5. Either directly before or after dinner, a daily meeting will be held to discuss the day’s progress and the plan for the following day (i.e. what type of training, viewing video training footage, what equipment is needed, breakfast time, departure time etc.)

Eligibility

The Ski Team is limited to highly qualified Middle School and Senior School skiers in grades 5-12.

There will be an information meeting at the beginning of the school year for all prospective and returning ski team members. All prospective new ski racers must attend a two-day ski team trial in the Fall.

The level of skiing ability within the team is high, so we only advise students who have had ski race experience or outstanding recreational skiers to attend the trial. At the trial our trainers will work together to judge the skiers’ readiness for ski racing. Any student not selected to the squad will be encouraged to develop their skills through the privately-run Ski Saturday programme, where there is a junior racing group.

All skiers selected to be part of the ski team are expected to commit themselves to all training days and races as well as ski gymnastics sessions at school each week.

Trainings and raceswill be posted and updated on this website.

Fees
Skiers must pay a fee for each trip to cover their ski pass, transportation, and lodging if applicable.
