Counselling at MIS
Counselling at MIS is designed to serve and assist the unique needs of international students and their families. While addressing the academic, social, and emotional needs of students, Counsellors also act as a bridge between teachers and parents, working to create an environment where every student will have the tools needed to fulfill our school mission.
Counsellors work with students on a range of issues, including communication and relationship building skills with peers, parents, and teachers; time management and study skills; stress management; anxiety reduction; transitions; self-esteem; and management of peer pressure. Counsellors maintain an up-to-date list of outside professionals in the area for students who may benefit from referral.
Transitions
An important support service at international schools is to assist students with transitions. The Junior, Middle and Senior School staff collaborate to ensure that the progress of students into the next school proceeds as smoothly as possible. Each August we welcome new students and their families through orientation activities, and each Spring Junior and Middle School support staff work closely with subject teachers to prepare students for the next step in their education. Specialized Counsellors support grade 11 and 12 students in the university application process and preparation for life beyond MIS.
