Munich International School (MIS) is accredited to run the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) from Early Childhood through to Grade 5.
The PYP is an international, transdisciplinary programme that focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside. It is underpinned by the belief that an IB student and the school community strive to become more internationally minded. This is achieved through embracing the attributes that make up the IB learner profile.
At the heart of this philosophy is a commitment to structured inquiry as the leading vehicle for learning. Six transdisciplinary themes provide the framework for the exploration of knowledge. Students explore subject areas through these themes, often in ways that transcend conventional subject boundaries. In the process, they develop an understanding of important concepts, acquire essential skills and knowledge, develop particular attitudes and learn to take socially responsible action. Teachers and students are guided by these themes as they design curricular units for exploration and study. As a result, MIS has developed a comprehensive Programme of Inquiry and individual subject standards and benchmarks to be incorporated both within the Programme of Inquiry and as standalone units of study.
The MIS community emphasizes the importance of working together and creates opportunities for students to take responsibility for their learning. The Parent Teacher Organisation (PTO) is very active and supportive of both the teachers and students. Parents are welcome as volunteers in the classrooms and are regularly invited to share their child’s learning at school.
