At MIS,
language is viewed as an area of the curriculum that crosses into all
disciplines of the school. It is for this reason that all teachers at MIS are
considered to be teachers of language within their domain. Language A English
is an integral part of the PYP and underpins the key concepts that are taught
in all classrooms.
The Language A
English curriculum is separated into five strands: listening, speaking,
reading, writing and, viewing and presenting.
The homeroom teacher is primarily responsible for the
development of students’ English language skills and fosters an environment
where students are immersed in a variety of text forms. Students are given
opportunities to learn how to communicate their thoughts and ideas through
carefully planned language experiences and develop an appreciation of the power
of language. It is the aim of MIS that all students can use their English
language skills confidently within their community for multiple purposes. It is
for this reason that Language A English is integrated throughout the entire
curriculum.
