Computer Science

This is the course of choice for any student interested in the fundamentals of computer systems. It appeals to both generalists and those with aspirations to develop a career in the Information Technology field.

The Standard Level course focuses on designing and writing basic programs in the ubiquitous Java language and helps acquaint the student with most components of the hardware and software environments.

The Higher Level course extends the SL material to include more complex data designs, algorithms and file structures, which are required to solve more challenging user requirements.

During the second year of both courses, the student will be asked to design and write a Java based program to solve a particular business problem that they have identified. This is very much a ‘hands on’ course that requires a logical approach to problem solving, as well as keen interest in how computers are used, and how to use a computer to help solve problems.
