Students are able to learn a band instrument at MIS through the Private Instrumental Teaching Program. The instrumental teachers work closely with the students and band director to prepare students for ensemble work. The music department believes that instrumental teaching and band participation go together.
The band includes piano players, keyboards and percussionists, brass, woodwind and string players. Entry is by audition which is usually done by the director. Students that have already been members of the band do not need to audition. The Middle School Band will play during MIS concert evenings and other events.
There might be a few extra rehearsals before the concerts.
The Bands usually travel once a year to another European International School to perform concerts with the musician of the hosting school.
