Environment Team

Only in Fall and Spring season. Limited to 10 children.

Do you enjoy fresh air and would like to work on some projects to improve our environment? If so, E-Team is the club for you! We meet in Mrs. Stinson’s classroom, J117. We’ll spend our time around the campus, in the school garden or in the nearby woods, weather permitting. Help the ETeam help the Earth!

On some Tuesdays, accordingly with the weather conditions, Mrs. Stinson will be joined by a biologist, Mr. Goldschmidt that will run workshops to stimulate interest, fascination and love for nature. The activities planned for these “looking at & learning about” workshops are:

- Excursion to the pond on the MIS property; collecting pond fauna, showing and explaining typical animals, talking about their biology (life cycle, strategies).

- Excursions to the forest:

  1. Investigating life in the leave litter on the ground; showing and explaining typical animals, talking about diversity and nutrient cycles in the forest; showing small and generally invisible life.
  2. Collecting fruits and leaves of different trees and shrubs; explaining the species; talking about diversity; showing how to make a "herbarium".
  3. Eventually looking for animal traces in the snow.

- Making an inventory (species list) of the trees and scrubs on the property (by collecting leaves).

Priority will be given to students that have never participated in this activity.
