The World Choir will be performing the ecological musical OCEAN WORLD by Peter Rose and Anne Conlon in January 2012. This musical is a series of 24 songs which describe the eventful journey of a humpback whale and her calf as they travel from the breeding grounds of the southern coral reefs to the cold waters of the northern seas. The mother whale introduces us to her magical ocean world but, as she and her calf draw near to their northern feeding grounds, the man-made difficulties they encounter become ever more serious. Several of the songs from the original Ocean World production on London can be viewed on UTube. For this production we will need a World Choir of 40-50 voices. Auditions for the Choir will be held the first week of school. For more information contact the choir director Evelyn Smith, esmith@mis-munich.de
The philosophy and goals of the Choir support the MIS philosophy of providing our students with a holistic education; the activities are supported by the MIS Arts Foundation as well as the After School Activities Program. The goal of the MIS World Choir is to promote internationalism through the performance of world music by talented, happy, energetic singers. This is a select vocal ensemble of about 40 students. The choir rehearses once a week on Monday from 16:15 to 17:45 throughout the school year; participants are required to attend these weekly rehearsals in preparation for upcoming concerts.
Select singers in the World Choir have the opportunity to participate in the international choral festival program sponsored by AMIS, the Association for Music in International Schools. The Honor Boys’ Festival will take place in Frankfurt 12-15 October 2011. The Honor Girls’ Festival will take place at the American International School of Vienna 18-22 April 2012.
