Tanzania

In the summer of 1990, under the leadership of the Headmaster at the time, Lister Hannah, MIS students Jesse Garcia and Nickie Shaver travelled to Tanzania with teachers Carol Geiger and Mark McGough to establish a helping relationship with the people of Tanzania. This relationship has evolved since that first visit into a significant component of the MIS Community outreach.

MIS now supports a variety of projects in Tanzania. A team of students and staff visit each year, carrying donations and equipment to be used for development purposes which are decided upon in consultation with the local communities.

We currently support a range of projects.

In 2010 we are sponsoring a number of Tanzanian Students who are unable to pay their school fees. We raise money via sponsored JS Read-Ins to provide text books for six selected primary schools. The 2009 sponsored Read-Ins raised 3,000 Euros.

In 2009, our visiting team donated €75,000 to these organizations, raised by Munich International School students, teachers and parents through a wide variety of fundraising activities.
