Dear MIS Community,

My name is Martin Ewald, and I am honored to stand for election to the Board of Directors at Munich International School.

Our family recently returned to Munich after eight years in London, and we have been deeply appreciative of the school’s commitment to fostering a diverse, engaged, and internationally minded community. My wife Stephanie and I are proud MIS parents of two children, one in Grade 6 and one in Grade 5. They are thriving here, and we value being part of this vibrant parent community.

Why I am Running: The strength of MIS lies in its community engagement. I am running because I believe that active participation from parents is vital to the school’s long-term success. I encourage every parent to exercise their right to vote and help shape the future of our children’s education.

The Value I Bring to the Board:  I believe my professional background and international experience can offer significant support to the commercial and strategic dimensions of MIS:

  • Financial and Strategic Leadership: With 17 years of experience as an impact investor and former Managing Director at Allianz Global Investors in Munich, London, and Singapore, I have a deep understanding of financial structuring and long-term strategic planning.
  • Governance and Accountability: My current work leading SCALED, a multi-stakeholder initiative involving several international governments and large-scale investors, requires navigating complex stakeholder environments and ensuring accountability. I am accustomed to the governance processes necessary to steer complex organizations.
  • Sustainability Expertise: As a Sustainable Investment Fellow with the United Nations and a lecturer in finance, I hope to contribute credibly to the school’s sustainability agenda, ensuring MIS remains a forward-looking institution.
  • A Bicultural Perspective: Having lived and worked extensively in both Germany and the UK, and having children who have attended schools in both systems, I bring a bicultural perspective that values and understands the international ethos of MIS.

I am also a member of Atlantik-Brücke, an organization dedicated to strengthening transatlantic relations, a mission of international cooperation that I see reflected daily at MIS.

My goal is to contribute to the strategic direction of the school, ensuring it remains a place where our children can excel in a globalized world. I ask for your vote so that I may put my experience in finance, governance, and sustainability to work for our school.

Sincerely,

Martin Ewald
