The SLP Athletics team is delighted to host the inaugural ‘Basketball Local Derby’ match between the MIS and BIS Varsity Boys and Girls teams. The matches will take place after school on Tuesday 28th January 2025, both starting at 17:30, in the FAB. (A ‘Local Derby’ is a British term for a match between two local clubs that are geographically close to each other.)
Of course, we have played against the Bavarian International School many times in the past, but starting in 2025 we will officially host one Basketball Derby each year, rotating annual hosting duties between us and BIS. According to the BBC, ‘Derby games are really important especially for fans and players, as there's local pride and bragging rights at stake for the winning team!’ Source: Football: Why are sport rivalries called derbies?
So the SLP Athletics team would love it if a huge section of our MIS community would turn out and support our Varsity Basketball Wildcats on Tuesday 28th January in the FAB. The Imbiss will be open serving hot and cold drinks, healthy snacks and some treats too. The bleachers will be out so there will be plenty of space for spectators. All traditions need a good strong start, and we will only achieve this with the support of our community - students, parents and colleagues alike. So, see you there for some brilliant Basketball!
