At Munich International School (MIS), we believe the school journey should be more than a ride; it should be a safe, smooth, and positive part of every child’s day, helping them build independence and social skills along the way.

We’re excited to share the latest progress on our new transportation app, BatOnRoute. Over the past months, we’ve trained all bus drivers, issued numerous QR codes, and we are now ready to begin testing the parent app designed to give families unprecedented convenience and peace of mind.

What Is BatOnRoute?

For families who do not regularly use MIS transportation, here’s a quick overview:  BatOnRoute is a smart digital platform currently being piloted by our drivers to replace paper lists. With instantly updateable digital route information, built-in navigation, and real‑time student tracking, the system brings efficiency, safety, and flexibility to our transportation services.

And for parents, it brings even more exciting features:

Real-Time Monitoring: See exactly where your child’s bus is along the route and get accurate arrival-time updates.

Instant Notifications: Opt-in to receive real-time alerts when your child boards the bus and when they disembark.

Contactless Check-In: Students simply scan a QR code when getting on and off the bus. Or select their name from the list on the occasion they misplace their code.

MS and SrS students will soon have their QR code integrated into their school ID badges, keyrings for backpacks for JS students.

These features are designed with one priority in mind: your child’s safety. Knowing precisely where the bus is and when it will arrive, knowing when your child boards and disembarks provides added reassurance for families with busy schedules.

Our Commitment to a Safe & Supportive Ride

Safety and community are at the heart of our transportation programme:

Senior School Bus Monitors: Our Grade 11 and 12 students can apply to serve as bus monitors, helping younger students, encouraging a positive atmosphere, and earning valuable CAS hours as part of the IB Diploma Programme.

Experienced, Police-Checked Drivers: All MIS bus drivers undergo strict background checks and have extensive local knowledge of Munich and the surrounding region.

Safety Regulations: Seatbelts are mandatory under German law, and to prevent choking hazards, eating, and drinking are not permitted on the bus, exception of hot days where water can be drunk while the bus is stopped.

Flexible Buddy Bus Pass Options

To support student friendships and after-school activities, for more flexible ways for students to ride the bus even if they are not regular riders.

Families can request:

  • 5 buddy bus passes for students who are not enrolled in the bus service,
  • 15 buddy bus passes for one way bussing students, or
  • Unlimited buddy passes for regular round‑trip riders.

These options make it easier than ever for students to take part in MIS’s vibrant Student Life Programme, attend group projects, enjoy social time, or join a friend for an after‑school activity.

And coming next school year, parents can apply via Bat on Route for the bus pass if seats are available.
