Meet Rudi Bauer by email at contact@drum-together.com

Bio:  Rudi Bauer grew up in Erding, a small town outside Munich, Germany.

Looking back, his first drum performance takes place in his Grandma’s kitchen very early on. There will be a while before his first drum lesson, however. Finally, at fourteen, it all happens: the first drums, the first rock band. From the beginning, his drumming education is also set in the classical direction. Only two years later, Rudi Bauer wins several national music competitions.

This is followed by studies at the Munich University of Music and Theatre under Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Peter Sadlo, who became aware of Bauer’s talent at the competitions, including one-year guest studies under Prof. Franz Lang (University of Music in Trossingen). During this time he also starts to work closely with Edgar Guggeis (e.g. with his percussion art ensemble “Ensemble für Perkussive Kunst München”), with whose master class he then concludes his education after exams.

In 1997, he is the most successful German percussionist taking part in the international ARD Music Competition.

That same year Rudi Bauer, Stephan Wildfeuer, Jürgen Weishaupt, Hannes Eitner and Pete Wrba found the band Power! Percussion. Together they develop a unique percussion show, which celebrates great success all over the world.

Rudi Bauer plays as solo percussionist and as chamber musician at renowned international festivals such as the Hong Kong Drum Festival, the Salzburger Festspiele, the New Music Festival St. Petersburg, the Evian Music Festival/France and at the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing.

As solo timpani player and percussionist, he worked closely with the Munich Chamber Orchestra and also had engagements with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonics, the Klangforum Vienna, and many more. He plays under conductors such as Zubin Metha, Kent Nagano and Valery Gergiev. Most impressive for him has been the work with the legendary maestros Sergiu Celibidache and Sir George Solti.

He is involved in a variety of productions for German TV and radio stations and CCTV in China as well as CD productions for Sony Music, EMI Classic, Deutsche Grammophon, and others.

Since 2006 he regularly plays concerts in Asia and Europe with his former university friend, the Chinese percussion star Li Biao. In 2014 they toured through South America.

Rudi Bauer was teaching percussion and rhythm at the University of Music in Regensburg from 2008 to 2014.

Since 2019, he is teaching percussion at the University of Music and Theater in Munich.

In his workshops, he passes on his experience as a teacher, a percussionist and a performer to participants of all ages.

Furthermore, Rudi Bauer is working as a co-author, arranger, and composer.
