Making Magic in the Junior School
The Makers' Lab nurtures Bold Dreamers by inspiring students to imagine fearlessly, create with purpose, and grow through meaningful, hands-on learning experiences.
In the Junior School Makers' Space, students develop motor skills through engaging with woodworking tools and low-tech materials. Students also get hands-on experience with robotics and electronics, learning how to code, wire circuits, and program their own robots.
Junior School teachers utilize the Makers' Space to complement units of inquiry, enabling students to design and create their own solutions to improve our school and campus. Students can come to the Makers's Space during breaks and specific recess times if they have an idea of their own. Our Makers's Space teacher is on-site to assist students in bringing their own dreams to life.

Real-World Making in the Middle & Senior School
The Lab was developed to provide students with a space to learn new skills, explore personal interests, and engage in research, investigation, and creation that support both the planned curriculum and all areas of school learning.
The Making Movement is about providing interdisciplinary opportunities to solve real-world problems. This means students need to access knowledge and skills from many disciplines to complete tasks. It is also about differentiating learning for students and giving choice in the way they can show their understanding. Making gives learning purpose and context, and is more likely to intrinsically motivate students to want to find out more.
In addition to class time and class projects in the Makers' Lab, Middle & Senior School students at MIS have many opportunities to work on their own projects or take classes after school in different Maker skills. Our Makers' teachers assist students on their independent projects as well as class projects.
