MIS & TANZANIA
STRONGER TOGETHER
CIRCA 1990
MIS has supported multiple organizations in Tanzania since 1990.
A Long Relationship
MIS has supported multiple organizations in Tanzania since 1990.

In the summer of 1990, under the leadership of the Headmaster at the time, Lister Hannah, MIS students Jesse Garcia and Nickie Shaver travelled to Tanzania with teachers Carol Geiger and Mark McGough to establish a helping relationship with the people of Tanzania. This relationship has evolved since that first visit into a significant component of the MIS Community outreach.

Since our connection has spanned decades, MIS has been able to see the impact of the Tanzania Project.  Lightness Isojick (pictured right with Tanzania Project Coordinator, Kirti Joshi) was partially sponsored for 5 years to finish high school and throughout her university years. Totaling less than 2,000 USD, the return on investment has been "immeasurable" as Lightness has been a teacher for 12 years. She currently teaches at Black Rhino International Academy, a stunningly picturesque international school in the heart of Karatu, Tanzania. She was able to visit MIS for the first time in May of 2024! Click here to read her full "M Story".

Since 1998, MIS has been supporting the growth and development of both the Occupational Therapy (OT) Clinic and the teaching of Occupational Therapy at the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre [KCMC] in Moshi, Tanzania. For many years, MIS has supported the training of numerous students in the OT diploma program by funding their tuition fees and other expenses for those who are financially disadvantaged. Recently, three very experienced OT practitioners achieved further qualifications in OT. (Click here to read the full story.)

MIS supports a variety of projects in Tanzania. A team of students and coordinators visit each year, carrying donations and equipment to be used for development purposes.  These supplies are decided upon in consultation with the local communities.
